Fyr-Fyter was a major player in the
carbontet world and this "Junior" example is no exception. Most likely
made for the home use market it is unique for being the only
extinguiisher of this type with the nozzle mounted in the edge of the
lid instead of the bottom like most others. Also, the mounting
bracket had a small label at the base containing a Radon
dot which would glow in the dark making it easier to find at night
with the lights out, or so the advertising claimed.Perhaps even more interesting is the inner workings. By de-soldering the unit the pump can now be removed to show construction. Add a little extra machining the and all operating features are revealed. Basically, this whole device was nothing more than a bicycle tire pump mounted inside a container full of liquid that when pressurized (by the air pump) forced the liquid out the nozzle. Simple, maybe, but still more complex than other types of extinguishers of the time. ![]() |
