BRACKETS and STANDS
Tired of trying to find a place to lay
or prop up your good old hand
pump brass or copper extinguisher becuase you don't have a
bracket or stand? Well, perhaps ShelCraft can help you out.
After suffering the missing
bracket blues and searching all the
hardware stores for something suitable which always turned out to be
ugly it was time to head out to the shop and get creative. So, here we
go with a couple of solutions mounting and display with more to come in
the not too distant
future.
Generic
Bracket
So named because this model will fit
most 1 quart hand pump extinguishers with a 3 inch diameter. The 3
piece bracket is hand shaped from 16 and 14 gauge black iron and
assembled
with heavy tinners rivets (two per clamp to prevent rotation). After
dipping in an eching solution two coats of semi-flat black enamal
are
added for a finish tht won't detract from the extinguisher.

Fyr-Fyter 1
Believed
to be used for most of the 1 quart models starting c. 1925 and on into
the '30's line the original (on the left) came
with a
Master Super nickel plated model. Reproductions are painted with
semi-flat black enamel or metallic silver, please specify. Sorry,
nickel plating is not an option.
Construction – 3
piece riveted unit made up of a 1
inch
contoured spine, tapered clamp and 3 inch base pan.

Fyr-Fyter 2
Later
1930's 1 quart models came with little different bracket design, but
retained the same base pan and canister clamp. Added was a separate
slotted piece for recieving the base of the pump handle and the channel
spine extended to cover the handle top. Shown here are the reproduction
(left) and an original.

Another later model
from the late '40's to '50's is also being developed.
Pyrene, General and Others
Pyrene - Reproducing the base pan is
the major problem at this time, but being worked on.
General - Same problem as the Pyrene
with a slightly different shape.
Others - As more bracket examples are
found they will be evaluated for reproduction.
Buckle straps
for vehicle type brackets can be made, but at this time are totally
hand fabricated making them very labor intensive.

Stands
As you can see, nothing quite makes
your little hand pump extinguisher
more displayable than a nice wood stand. Whether displaying a single
piece, uncluttering your collection or giving as a gift why not make it
look the way it was originally intended, upright and ready to use.
1 quart models are 3 piece units made
of 3/4" material with a 3-1/2"
x14" vertical mount, 6"x6" routed base and beveled back brace held
together by brass screws and glue.
